Students qualify for nationals

Nineteen Dora High School Business Professional Association members and sponsor, Colleen Tollett, attended the State Leadership Conference in Albuquerque Feb. 16-18.

Participants came back with top awards and 14 students qualified for the National Leadership Conference.

Daniella Montanez was elected as the 2012-2013 state secretary/treasurer and will represent New Mexico at the national conference at all state meetings and national caucuses. Gowan Hays received the Wanda Harriman Scholarship of $400.

Those winning awards at SLC include:

• Banking and Finance: Gowan Hays, 1st and a $500 scholarship to ENMU.

• Database Applications: Katie Bickley, 1st.

• Graphic Design Promotion: Dylan Privett, 3rd.

• Legal Office Procedures: Erika Danbom, 1st.

• Medical Office Procedures: Ashley Kanmore, 1st.

• Parliamentary Procedure Team: Katie Bickley, Ashley Butler, Aubrey Butler, Gowan Hays, Ashley Kanmore, Neyda Romero, Averi Skelley, 1st.

• Parliamentary Procedure Written: Katie Bickley, 1st; Gowan Hays, 2nd; Averi Skelley, 3rd; Aubrey Butler, 5th.

• Prepared Speech: Anthony Maloney-Pena, 3rd.

• Statesman Torch Award: Katie Bickley, Averi Skelley, Courtney Watson, Adrian Rodriquez, Gowan Hays, Erika Danbom, Savannah Dimas, Ashley Butler, Aubrey Butler, Jestin Watson.

Qualifying students will attend the NLC on April 24 in Chicago, April 24-28 and participate in work skill assessments and leadership development. They are currently participating in several fundraisers to earn the money needed for registration, housing and travel.
